H.R. No. 1409 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Roy May, Jr., an army combat veteran who has demonstrated bravery and diligence in service to his nation, has returned home to continue a cherished family custom by attending Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, Mr. May was born in Bryan in 1979 to Roy and Becky May; three years after graduating from Klein High School in Spring, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, continuing a strong military tradition begun by his grandfather during World War II, carried on by his father, who saw action in Vietnam, and also embraced by his sister Amanda, a West Point graduate; and WHEREAS, Assigned to the 3rd U.S. Army Infantry Regiment, Mr. May was soon dispatched to the Pentagon as part of the rescue and recovery efforts taking place after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; he later served as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and was chosen as the noncommissioned officer in charge when former president Ronald Reagan lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda; and WHEREAS, After completing the U.S. Army Pathfinder School, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division and was deployed to Iraq, where he served as a squad leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and WHEREAS, During the course of his distinguished service, Mr. May received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, and Army Good Conduct Medal, as well as the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star; and WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the military, Mr. May enrolled at Texas A&M University, becoming an Aggie like his dad and his sister Susannah before him; a member of the Corps of Cadets Delta Company, he recently fulfilled his childhood dream of following in his father's footsteps as an Aggie yell leader, winning election to that prestigious post for his upcoming junior year; and WHEREAS, In all that he has undertaken, Mr. May has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Megan, who is also an army veteran; the couple are the proud and devoted parents of a daughter, Kira Celene; and WHEREAS, Through his courage, professionalism, and dedication to duty, Roy May, Jr., embodies the highest values of the United States armed forces, and it is a privilege to honor him for his selfless efforts in this country's behalf; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby commend Roy May, Jr., for his exemplary service to his state and his nation and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. May as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
