H.R. No. 1449 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends were greatly saddened by the loss of Nyle Jane Terry of Houston, who passed away on November 22, 2011, at the age of 83; and WHEREAS, Born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 14, 1928, Nyle Terry grew up in the Motor City and in Buffalo and Cleveland; she attended Duke University in North Carolina, where she studied Spanish and Russian and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors; while at Duke, she met fellow student Howard Chester Terry, and the two were married on campus; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry and her husband moved to Houston in 1950, settling in the Oak Forest neighborhood; in time, they welcomed into their family two treasured sons, Clark and Stan; a devoted mother, Mrs. Terry helped her children with homework and school projects and cheered for them at athletic events; she was supported in her efforts by the many friends she made in the community, which remained her home for 60-plus years; and WHEREAS, In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Terry assisted her husband with his work at a publishing company by serving as his office manager, performing administrative duties and keeping the business running smoothly; she loved the simple things in life, delighting in song and dance and in her two felines, Kitty Cat and Tika; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Terry was a woman of strong religious conviction and was active in church throughout her life; she also read the Bible aloud with her sons every night until they left for college; and WHEREAS, This inspiring Texan lived a caring and purposeful life, and her commitment to her faith and her loved ones will forever be remembered with deep respect and abiding affection; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Nyle Jane Terry and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her son, Stan Terry, and his wife, Chris; to her grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Laura Terry; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it so do in memory of Nyle Jane Terry.
