 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Citizens of Cedar Park are observing the 40th
 anniversary of the incorporation of their community in 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Originally known as Running Brushy, the settlement
 of Cedar Park grew around the ranch and home of the founding Cluck
 family in the late 1800s; during this time, it benefited from the
 nearby Austin and Northwestern Railroad, becoming a major source of
 limestone in the region and the only source of shell stone in the
 entire nation; and
 WHEREAS, On February 24, 1973, Cedar Park residents voted to
 incorporate; the town was first led by Kenneth Bell, for whom Bell
 Boulevard is named, and it has since thrived under the guidance of
 mayors Buzz Henry, George Wade, Ron Merrill, Dalton Stephens, Reese
 Turner, George Bowling, Dorothy Duckett, George Denny, Bob Young,
 Bob Antle, Bob Lemon, and Matt Powell, who took office in 2012; and
 WHEREAS, Cedar Park experienced a population boom in the
 years following its incorporation, growing from 700 to
 approximately 54,000 people in only four decades; in 1980, the
 Cedar Park Public Library opened its doors, and in 2007, its first
 hospital, the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, was established;
 that same year, Forbes magazine named Cedar Park the 11th
 fastest-growing suburb in America, and Family Circle listed it as
 one of the top 10 cities in which to raise a family; and
 WHEREAS, Today, this bustling city offers the natural beauty
 of nearly 900 acres of parkland and more than a dozen cave
 preserves, as well as such attractions as the Cedar Park Center
 arena and Veterans Memorial Park; as they celebrate their rich
 heritage while looking forward to a prosperous future, residents of
 Cedar Park may indeed reflect with pride on the ways that they have
 helped make their city an excellent place in which to live and work;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the
 incorporation of Cedar Park and extend to the town's residents
 sincere best wishes for the future.
