 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
 a close when Ethyel Stallings passed away on March 27, 2013, at the
 age of 92; and
 WHEREAS, Ethyel Stallings was born and raised in Dallas,
 graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1939; she went on to
 marry Ted Stallings, with whom she nurtured a rewarding
 relationship and shared the joy of raising five children, Greg,
 Steve, Don, Suzanne, and Diana; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Stallings distinguished
 herself as a community leader of boundless energy; inspired to
 support the candidacy of Dwight Eisenhower, she formed the First
 Republican Women's Club of Dallas in 1952, and today, the
 organization continues to be a powerful force in North Texas
 politics; she also collected enough signatures to create the first
 Republican precinct in Dallas County, and her story of walking
 door-to-door while pulling her children in a little red wagon has
 become legendary among her fellow activists; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stallings further shared her time and talents
 with scouting programs, the Lakeview Garden Club, and the State
 Fair of Texas, which she served for many years as a craft and food
 judge; together with her husband, she attended First United
 Methodist Church and was active in the Norrell Sunday school class;
 through that group, she oversaw a scholarship foundation for the
 Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University as
 president and trustee; and
 WHEREAS, Ethyel Stallings embodied the spirit of public
 engagement that is the foundation of a successful democracy, and
 although she will be deeply missed, she leaves behind a legacy of
 achievement that will long resonate in the city she was proud to
 call home; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ethyel Stallings
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
 sons, Greg Stallings and Steve Stallings; to her daughters, Suzanne
 Guerra and Diana Hadley; to her seven grandchildren and five
 great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ethyel
 Stallings.
