H.R. No. 1578 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Victoria is celebrating its 100th anniversary on October 12-13, 2013; and WHEREAS, When it was founded in 1913, the church was the first English-speaking Lutheran congregation in Victoria; a larger facility was built in 1952 to accommodate the congregation's growing numbers, and the church now occupies an entire block on North Main Street in the heart of Victoria; and WHEREAS, United by their shared faith and strong traditions, the members of this notable house of worship support a variety of commendable programs that offer fellowship as well as help to those in need; and WHEREAS, In recognition of the significant role that First English Lutheran has played in the Victoria community, the Texas Historical Commission has recently awarded the church an official Texas Historical Marker; and WHEREAS, Countless Victoria residents have looked to First English Evangelical Lutheran Church for spiritual enrichment and guidance through the years, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring the church at this special time in its rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate First English Evangelical Lutheran Church on its centennial anniversary and on its receipt of a Texas Historical Marker from the Texas Historical Commission and extend to all those affiliated with the church sincere best wishes for a joyous and memorable celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
