H.R. No. 1581 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Students from Midway High School in Waco achieved notable success at the 2013 Texas Association of Future Educators Teach Tomorrow Summit, where they participated in a number of state competitions; and WHEREAS, TAFE provides young people with opportunities to learn about the teaching profession by hosting a variety of activities that engage students in the experience of a career in education; and WHEREAS, Accompanied by advisor Gail Howerton, 12 Midway students attended the summit, including five whose showing at the regional event qualified them to compete at the state level; among these regional standouts were Melissa Fisher and Mallory Castilleja, who won first and second place respectively in lesson plan, Chandler Osborne, who earned first place in essay, Latayla Drake, who took first place in storybook, and Mary Kate Shannon, who triumphed with a first-place win in keynote speech; and WHEREAS, Competing against the other top TAFE students in the state, these five young women proudly represented their school, and Ms. Shannon again claimed top honors for her speech; as the state champion, she will advance to compete at the National Future Educators Association conference in Orlando, Florida; and WHEREAS, These outstanding young Texans demonstrated impressive initiative and creativity while gaining important insight into their chosen field, and they may indeed reflect with pride on their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Midway High School participants in the Texas Association of Future Educators regional and state competitions and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
