H.R. No. 1587
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The BEST Education Foundation celebrates its 20th
anniversary in 2013, and this occasion provides an opportunity to
recognize the organization's important role in the Garland
Independent School District; and
WHEREAS, Founded by former GISD superintendent Dr. Jill
Shugart and by Ruth Buchholz, a local philanthropist, the BEST
Education Foundation promotes academic excellence throughout the
district by generating and distributing resources to support
schools and their staffs, teachers, and students; and
WHEREAS, The organization, overseen by a 17-member board of
directors, raises funds from individuals, businesses,
corporations, and other groups to offset programming costs; with
its partners, the foundation has funded literacy campaigns,
technology workshops, confidence-building seminars, professional
development, and many other innovative initiatives; and
WHEREAS, At the anniversary gala held on January 24, 2013,
Keith Reimer, the organization's program specialist, distributed
more than $30,000 to area schools and teachers; and
WHEREAS, The BEST Education Foundation helps ensure that
Garland schools and teachers have the tools they need to prepare
young Texans for the future, and it is a pleasure to recognize the
organization for its positive impact on the community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the BEST Education Foundation on
its 20th anniversary and extend to its staff and board of directors
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the foundation as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
