R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Javier Farias of McAllen has been named the 2012-13
School Board Trustee of the Year by the Texas Classroom Teachers
Association; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1927, the TCTA now numbers more than
50,000 members; its Trustee of the Year Award is presented annually
to an individual who has rendered outstanding service to the field
of education, to students in the district, and to the greater
community; and
WHEREAS, Javier Farias has been a member of the McAllen
Independent School District Board of Trustees since 2003 and has
served in various leadership positions, including president, vice
president, and secretary; nominated for this honor by the McAllen
Classroom Teachers Association, Mr. Farias was particularly lauded
for his work to increase the district's fund balance and provide
important technology to teachers and students; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, the McAllen board was named the
2012 Outstanding Board of the Year by the Texas Association of
School Administrators and the Texas Association of School Boards;
this accolade recognized the district's innovative Transforming
Learning in the Classroom, Campus, and Community program, which
introduced mobile learning devices to area students; and
WHEREAS, For nearly a decade, Javier Farias has generously
shared his time and talents with the school district, and his
exemplary efforts to prepare McAllen's students for the 21st
century workplace are truly deserving of this prestigious award;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Javier Farias on his selection as
the 2012-13 School Board Trustee of the Year by the Texas Classroom
Teachers Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Farias as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
