 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
 memories of Garrett Cole Luce, who passed away on November 4, 2012,
 at the age of 19; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Houston on January 25, 1993, Garrett Luce
 was the only son of Joe and Janell Luce; he attended Second Baptist
 School and was active in numerous extracurricular pursuits,
 including scouting, piano lessons, summer camp, and the church
 choir; he also discovered a passion for baseball at an early age
 while playing for the Katy Freeway All-Stars; and
 WHEREAS, In middle school, Mr. Luce continued to hone his
 talents as a team member of the Houston Slam and had the pleasure of
 traveling to a game in Cooperstown, New York, where he hit the first
 of many home runs; a skilled basketball player as well, he helped to
 guide his school to a championship victory; proving himself a star
 both in the stadium and on stage, this impressive young man
 performed in the lead role of his school's production of High School
 Musical; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Luce later advanced to the varsity baseball
 team, playing catcher and serving as team captain in his senior
 year; he continued to distinguish himself in myriad activities
 outside the classroom, participating in Texas Boys State and
 singing tenor in All-State Choir, in addition to applying himself
 diligently to his studies; he was named an AP Scholar and an
 Academic All-State Honoree, and he was selected as one of the
 Outstanding Seniors of the class of 2011; and
 WHEREAS, After graduating summa cum laude, Mr. Luce was
 recruited to play baseball at the College of Charleston in South
 Carolina; later transferring to Texas A&M University, he joined the
 honors program of its school of business and was a Kappa Alpha
 pledge; he devoted his summer to serving as a baseball coach and a
 counselor at a youth camp, where he felt honored to be able to
 provide spiritual mentorship to younger boys; and
 WHEREAS, Supported by a loving family and sustained by a deep
 faith, Garrett Luce had a kind and gentle nature and an infectious
 smile that endeared him to countless others; although the loss of
 such a promising young life brings immeasurable sorrow, those who
 were blessed to know him will always carry him close to their
 hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Garrett Cole Luce
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 parents, Joe and Janell Luce; to his grandparents, Dr. C. Reginal
 and Marian King and Anna V. Luce; to his nanny, Irlanda Reyes; and
 to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Garrett
 Luce.
