 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, With more than 1.2 million members, Rotary
 International is a force for good in communities around the world,
 including numerous cities and towns in Texas, and the
 organization's accomplishments are being celebrated with Rotary
 Awareness Month during January 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Founded by Paul P. Harris in 1905, the Rotary Club
 began in Chicago but soon spread to other cities and countries; by
 the early 1920s, there were groups on six continents, which
 prompted the membership to adopt the name Rotary International;
 today, there are more than 34,000 clubs worldwide; and
 WHEREAS, Embracing the motto "Service Above Self," the
 organization fosters vocational, community, and international
 service while encouraging the advancement of understanding,
 goodwill, and peace; Rotarians strive to apply a four-way test to
 all they think, say, and do, asking:  Is it the truth?  Is it fair to
 all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will
 it be beneficial to all concerned?; and
 WHEREAS, Members support a vast range of worthwhile efforts,
 including projects to promote education and job training, combat
 hunger, improve health and sanitation, and eradicate polio across
 the globe; in addition, Rotary International sponsors leadership
 development and youth exchange initiatives to prepare the next
 generation of caring citizens; and
 WHEREAS, In the Austin area, the beneficial work of Rotary
 International is carried out by the Capitol of Texas Rotary Club;
 the group has been responsible for many positive achievements since
 being chartered on September 11, 2002; and
 WHEREAS, Enriching their communities in myriad ways and
 building international bridges of compassion and understanding,
 the men and women of Rotary International make crucial
 contributions to our society, and they are indeed deserving of
 commendation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize January 2013 as Rotary Awareness Month
 and honor the work of Rotary International and the Capitol of Texas
 Rotary Club; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Capitol of Texas Rotary Club as an expression of
 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
