 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
 passing of Robert Wayne Michna of Lorena on January 4, 2013, at the
 age of 68; and
 WHEREAS, Bob Michna spent 55 years in the barbecue business,
 working first at Rudy Mikeska's in Taylor and then at Clem Mikeska's
 in Temple before opening his own barbecue restaurant in Waco in
 1987; on a number of occasions, he was called to Washington, D.C.,
 to prepare food for members of Congress, and he once had the honor
 of cooking for President Gerald Ford when he visited Temple; over
 the years, Mr. Michna collected myriad prizes at barbecue
 competitions, but he counted the first-place award he received for
 his mother's sauce recipe as the pinnacle of his cook-off success;
 and
 WHEREAS, While building a highly regarded reputation as a
 barbecue master, Mr. Michna also gave freely of his time and
 energies in behalf of his community; he sponsored youth teams in
 sports ranging from baseball and softball to football, basketball,
 and soccer for nearly 30 years, and he was a staunch champion of the
 McLennan County Junior Livestock Show from 1987 to his passing; in
 addition, Mr. Michna supported the Heart of Texas Scholarship
 committee and various other school-related groups; he was a valued
 member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and
 the Northwest Optimist Club, and he also belonged to the Texas Farm
 Bureau; he was made an honorary member of the 124th Cavalry Regiment
 Spurs in recognition of his continued support of our troops; and
 WHEREAS, Bob Michna was the devoted husband of Sandra Michna,
 his wife of 45 years, and the proud father of three children; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan achieved a life that was rich in
 family, friends, and accomplishments, and those who were privileged
 to share in his love and friendship will forever hold him close in
 their hearts; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Robert Wayne Michna
 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
 wife, Sandra Michna; to his children, Tammy Talasek and her
 husband, Greg, Robert Michna, Jr., and his wife, Kim, and Billy
 Michna and his wife, Diane Degrate-Michna; to his grandchildren,
 Justin and Brittany Talasek, Kimberly Olsen and her husband,
 Garrett, and Lane, Cade, and Reed Michna; to his
 great-grandchildren, Madison Mayfield and Luke Olsen; to his
 siblings, Judy Motyka and her husband, Tom, Larry Michna and his
 wife, Kathy, Tony Michna, and Jimmy Michna and his wife, Denise; to
 his sister-in-law, Irene Michna; and to his many other relatives
 and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
 Wayne Michna.
