H.R. No. 1974
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Debra Seaman of Thornton Elementary School has been
selected as a 2013 Educator of the Year by the Northside Independent
School District in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Seaman joined the faculty of Thornton
Elementary as a kindergarten teacher in 2009; previously, she had
spent 17 years at the San Antonio Independent School District as a
teacher and the campus instructional coordinator; in her
administrative role, she oversaw the implementation of several
district-wide initiatives and helped train other educators; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Seaman leads her class with positive energy and
kindness, striving to build a strong base for future learning and an
inclusive and welcoming community for her young students; in
recognition of her outstanding work in the classroom, she has been
nominated for the Disney Hand Teacher Award and for the H-E-B
Excellence in Education Award three times; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her teaching responsibilities,
Ms. Seaman has served as the kindergarten team leader for three
years, is a campus mentoring advisor for the district's Red Wagon
Induction Program, and was chosen to represent Thornton on the NISD
Strategic Planning Focus Group; moreover, she has also served on
the Campus Leadership Team, has organized the Kinder Roundup, and
coordinated with the San Antonio Astronomical Association and
Starbucks to host "A Picnic Under the Stars"; active in her
community, she also supports The Children's Shelter, the San
Antonio Police Department's Blue Santa program, the United Way, the
Northside Education Foundation, and the Diabetes Walk; and
WHEREAS, Teachers play a vital role in preparing the next
generation of Texans for the challenges and opportunities of the
future, and Debra Seaman works to instill in her students a love of
learning that will serve them well in every aspect of their lives;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Debra Seaman on being named a 2013
Educator of the Year by Northside Independent School District and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Seaman as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
