No. 2074 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories of Clarence Edward Matthews of Jasper, who passed away on April 10, 2013, at the age of 82; and WHEREAS, The son of Mamie Margarite and Howard Edward Matthews, Clarence "Slick" Matthews was born in Vinton, Louisiana; he spent many happy years with his wife, Betty, and the couple had three children, Lynn, Donna, and Barbara; after Betty's passing in 1984, he was blessed to find love again with his wife, Leona; and WHEREAS, Mr. Matthews worked for the Houston Chronicle for 17 years and had additionally been a longtime employee of the Jasper Newsboy; active in his community, he was a member of the Almina Shriners and the Houston Masonic Lodge No. 1294; and WHEREAS, Although Clarence Matthews will be deeply missed, treasured memories of time spent in his company will long endure in the hearts of his family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clarence Edward Matthews and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his son, Lynn Edward Matthews, and his wife, Caroline; to his two daughters, Donna Joyce Yoas and her husband, Charles Everett, and Barbara Ann Crisp; to his brother, George Lee Matthews; to his niece, Terri Layne Hatch; to his grandchildren, Betsy Ann Henslee, Kathy Bussell, James Edward Matthews, Kasandra Irene Sunday, Christopher Lynn Matthews, Chad Everett Yoas, and Curtis Everett Yoas; to his 11 great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Clarence Matthews.
