H.R. No. 2338 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Cheryl Whitfield has demonstrated exceptional patriotism through her efforts in behalf of fallen members of the United States military; and WHEREAS, In 2008, Ms. Whitfield founded the National Memorial Ladies; the members of this noteworthy service organization pay tribute to Texans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country; in addition to attending military funerals at Houston National Cemetery, volunteers offer condolences to bereaved families; and WHEREAS, Ms. Whitfield has continued to work diligently to remind her fellow citizens of the contributions of the brave men and women of the armed forces; in 2010, she began a fund-raising effort to create a monument honoring Texans who gave their lives in defense of the United States of America in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan; she collaborated with public officials to find a site for the monument, which was built in Cy-Champ Park and dedicated on October 6, 2012; it features four large granite walls engraved with the names of more than 600 soldiers; and WHEREAS, Time can never diminish the profound debt Americans owe to the heroes who have died to protect our liberty, and Cheryl Whitfield has given selflessly of her time and talent to ensure that their courage and sacrifice receive due recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby commend Cheryl Whitfield for her leadership in the establishment of the National Memorial Ladies organization and the Fallen Warriors Memorial in Cy-Champ Park and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her important endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Whitfield as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
