H.R. No. 2392 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Dr. Fred Farias III of McAllen has been elected president of the Texas Optometric Association for the year 2014; and WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Farias has owned and operated 20/20 Vision Care for 25 years; over the course of his career, he has played an active role in professional organizations at the local, state, and national levels; he is a fellow of the American Optometric Association and state coordinator of the AOA Foundation's Vision USA Committee, which works to provide low-income, uninsured individuals and their families with free eye health and vision care; moreover, he has served as secretary-treasurer and as a member of the executive committee and board of directors of the TOA and as a gubernatorial appointee to the Texas Optometry Board; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is the recipient of the AOA Recognition Award and multiple TOA Presidents Awards; in addition to contributing to his profession, he has given back to his community as a member of the board of directors of the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic, the Rio Grande Valley American Cancer Society, and the Rio Grande Valley Arthritis Foundation; and WHEREAS, Dr. Farias has demonstrated outstanding commitment to his work, his colleagues, and his fellow citizens, and the members of the Texas Optometric Association will indeed benefit from the leadership and dedication he brings to his new post; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby honor the president-elect of the Texas Optometric Association, Dr. Fred Farias III, and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Farias as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
