H.R. No. 2629
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Barbara Meeks of League City has played a vital role
in building the Republican Party in Galveston County; and
WHEREAS, Long engaged in civic affairs, Ms. Meeks has served
on the city council and shared her time with a number of community
organizations, including the League City Garden Club, Historical
Society, and Heritage Foundation, as well as the Clear Creek
Environmental Foundation; a successful businesswoman, she
cofounded Meeks Marine, and she has earned the respect of her peers
through her work as an independent insurance agent and
entrepreneur; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Meeks has served the Republican Party in a
number of capacities over the years; she is a charter member and
leader of the Clear Creek Republican Women, and she is active in
both the Republican Network of Galveston County and the new
Mid-County Republican Network; over the past six years, she has
been instrumental in raising more than $250,000 to promote
Republican nominees and establish a year-round party headquarters;
in addition, she initiated the publication of voter guides, which
increased support for Republican candidates in the 2008 and 2010
elections; Ms. Meeks served as a precinct chair for a decade, and
she has served since 2011 as chair of the Galveston County
Republican Party; this distinguished Texan has been named
Volunteer of the Year for Senatorial District 11 by the State
Republican Executive Committee and been designated an Outstanding
Republican Woman by the Texas Federation of Republican Women; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Meeks has demonstrated a strong commitment
to her ideals and to the democratic process, and she may reflect
with pride on her contributions to the political life of Galveston
County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby honor Barbara Meeks for her exceptional service
to the Galveston County Republican Party and extend to her sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Meeks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
