 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Members of Northwest Assistance Ministries in
 Houston are gathering together for an interfaith service on
 February 10, 2013, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the
 organization; and
 WHEREAS, Established in 1983 by 10 area congregations,
 Northwest Assistance Ministries was born out of the need for social
 services in north Houston; in its first years, the association
 operated with limited resources, but it has since grown to become
 one of the largest charities in the Houston metropolitan area; and
 WHEREAS, Supported by more than 50 congregations, 18 service
 partner organizations, and over 160 business partners, NAM is
 operated by 85 employees and some 2,000 volunteers; in 2012, the
 group served nearly 130,000 residents through a number of worthy
 initiatives, including a food pantry, meals on wheels, a children's
 clinic, a family violence center, an interfaith hospitality network
 shelter, senior transportation, job development and basic
 education, and housing assistance for the homeless; and
 WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, Northwest Assistance
 Ministries has upheld its mission of "neighbors helping neighbors,"
 and its collaborative endeavors have greatly enriched the quality
 of life for many in the greater Houston area; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Northwest Assistance Ministries on 30
 years of outstanding service and extend to all those associated
 with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success
 with their important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for NAM as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
 of Representatives.
