H.R. No. 2884 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives joins the citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Bob Perry, who died on April 13, 2013, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Bob Perry was born on October 30, 1932, and raised on a farm in rural Bosque County, where he developed a strong work ethic at an early age; after earning a degree from Baylor University, he taught high school history and coached football before entering the construction business; in 1968, he founded Perry Homes, which now ranks among the largest homebuilders in the nation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Perry was a well-known philanthropist who donated generously to a number of worthwhile causes, including the Casa Hogar orphanage in Matamoros, Mexico, and other youth programs in South and Central America; a firm believer in helping those who need it most, he advocated for a sensible immigration solution, equitable treatment in the judicial process, and the fundamental right of all people to a quality education; and WHEREAS, He was a major donor to conservative political candidates, campaigns, and political action committees; between 2000 and 2010 alone, Mr. Perry gave some $66 million to groups in Texas and across the nation, notably Texans for Lawsuit Reform, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the Economic Freedom Fund, American Crossroads, and Restore Our Future; he backed both Republican and Democratic candidates and was especially supportive of efforts to help more Hispanic Republican candidates win elected office; and WHEREAS, A man of courage and unshakeable principles, he gave generously to others, and his unfailing civility, his commitment to conservative causes, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, Bob Perry was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Bob Perry and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bob Perry.
