H.R. No. 334 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The year 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Underwood Law Firm of Amarillo; and WHEREAS, This notable institution was established by Robert E. "Judge" Underwood, who studied at The University of Texas and taught school in Jack County before pursuing a legal career; and WHEREAS, Following his move to Amarillo in 1906, Mr. Underwood served as Potter County attorney and helped found the local bar association; he further distinguished himself as chair of the committee that drafted the first Amarillo city charter, and in 1912 he started his own law firm, which was originally known as R. E. Underwood; and WHEREAS, Through the decades, the practice has undergone more than a dozen title changes, but remaining consistent have been the Underwood name and a tradition of accomplished legal service; today, the firm maintains offices in Lubbock, Hereford, and Pampa in addition to its home city of Amarillo; and WHEREAS, Independent businesses that build a record of dependability and longevity are to be commended for the vital role they play in furthering the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to recognize Underwood Law Firm as it celebrates its centennial; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby honor the Underwood Law Firm on the 100th anniversary of its founding and that all those associated with the practice be extended sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Underwood Law Firm as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
