H.R. No. 350 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Douglass Elementary School in the El Paso Independent School District has been named a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, the highest national accolade that a school can receive; and WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon Schools program is an initiative that recognizes schools demonstrating overall academic excellence or making notable progress in improving outcomes among disadvantaged students; the program has been in existence for three decades; and WHEREAS, Douglass Elementary is one of fewer than 300 public and private schools from across the nation that were selected as Blue Ribbon Schools in 2012; overseen by principal Lugarda Dominic, the school intervenes when students are struggling academically or behaviorally, employing coaches for literacy, math, and science; and WHEREAS, Being chosen as a Blue Ribbon School is a great honor, and the conferring of this award on Douglass Elementary is a fitting tribute to that school's dedication to learning and its contributions to its community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Douglass Elementary School on its selection as a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School and extend to the school's students, teachers, staff, and administrators sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
