 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kate Voth of Austin has demonstrated remarkable
 spirit and resolve in her battle with cancer; and
 WHEREAS, In 2004, when she was just 18 years old, Ms. Voth was
 diagnosed with melanoma; she underwent surgery and began
 immunotherapy, but the cancer reappeared in 2009 in an advanced
 stage; now 26, she has braved countless hospital visits and endured
 additional biopsies, surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and other
 treatments in her campaign to halt the progression of the disease;
 and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Voth is motivated and comforted by hundreds of
 supporters, including family members, friends, and even strangers
 who are touched by her positive attitude and unshakable
 determination; in turn, she has helped encourage others who share
 her struggle; a social media manager, she has used her familiarity
 with online communications to reach out to other cancer fighters,
 particularly younger people who may feel isolated in their
 experience, and she has built strong and lasting friendships in the
 process; and
 WHEREAS, Even as she has dedicated herself to making a full
 recovery, Ms. Voth has refused to let the disease define her life;
 in 2008, she married her high school sweetheart, Mike Voth, who has
 been by her side throughout her ordeal; in addition, she devotes her
 time to a range of professional and community events in the Austin
 area, as well as partakes in the simple joys of music, good food,
 and sharing time with friends; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Voth remains passionate about outdoor
 activities, particularly running, and hopes to one day compete in
 the Boston Marathon; on February 17, 2013, in a fitting show of
 solidarity, more than 100 supporters are participating in the
 Livestrong Austin Marathon and Half Marathon as members of "Team
 Kate"; and
 WHEREAS, Kate Voth has drawn on an incredible reserve of
 courage, grace, and optimism, and in so doing, she has become an
 inspiring role model to all who know her; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Kate Voth for her strength, compassion,
 and selfless service to others and extend to her sincere best wishes
 for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Voth as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
