H.R. No. 730 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Elizabeth Jones was elected as the District 1 trustee of the Dallas Independent School District on May 14, 2012, and this is a fitting opportunity to take note of her many achievements; and WHEREAS, Educated in the public school system of New York City, Ms. Jones graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in economics and political science at Wellesley College and a master's degree in finance and strategic management at the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University in the Netherlands; she has also pursued graduate studies at the MIT Sloan School and the New York University Courant Institute of Mathematics; and WHEREAS, Her professional experience includes 25 years as a senior corporate and financial advisor, working with McKinsey & Co., the International Finance Corporation, and a number of financial institutions; her work has taken her all over the world, to Mexico, South America, Australia, and Europe; and WHEREAS, A visiting professor at The University of Texas at Dallas School of Management, Ms. Jones has been a longtime advocate for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education; she has served on the National Board of Examiners of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award and Performance Excellence program and as an advisor to The UT Dallas Science and Engineering Education Center; moreover, she cofounded the Center for Finance Strategy Innovation; and WHEREAS, Professor Jones has also served as a budget analyst for the state of Washington's Senate Ways and Means Committee and as an advisor on transportation financing, public pensions, and business regulation to several Texas legislative committees; she is the author of a guide to school district budgeting for the Washington State Research Council; and WHEREAS, The well-being of Texas schools depends in large part on the willingness of dedicated and knowledgeable citizens to devote their time and energy to public service, and Elizabeth Jones may indeed take great pride in her achievements and in her many contributions to her community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Jones on her election to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
