 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Kelly Burnett of Texarkana has been named a
 Distinguished Finalist in the 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community
 Awards program, becoming one of only 10 individuals in the State of
 Texas to receive that designation; and
 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National
 Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community
 Awards honor young men and woman in middle and high school for
 outstanding volunteer service; students are chosen at the local,
 state, and national levels, and more than 100,000 young people have
 been honored in the program's 18-year history; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Burnett is a 17-year-old senior at Texas High
 School in Texarkana; after recovering from a rare illness, she
 founded a philanthropy club in 2008; the club includes more than 25
 members and has raised more than $5,000, with the proceeds being
 donated to a variety of local and international causes; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding young woman has demonstrated great
 compassion, initiative, and determination in pursuit of a selfless
 goal, and she is an inspiration to all who know her; now, therefore,
 be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Kelly Burnett on her selection as a
 Distinguished Finalist in the 2013 Prudential Spirit of Community
 Awards program and extend to her sincere best wishes for a bright
 future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Burnett as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
