H.R. No. 815 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Austin High School Red Dragon Players won the University Interscholastic League Conference 5A state championship at the annual State One-Act Play Contest on May 23, 2012; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1927, the UIL One-Act Play Contest is the largest high school theater competition in the world; every year, more than 14,000 high school students in over 1,000 plays participate in some 300 contests across the Lone Star State, and taking top honors at the event requires considerable talent, dedication, and drive; and WHEREAS, The Austin High performance of King o' the Moon by Tom Dudzick marks its sixth consecutive appearance at the UIL state meet, setting a Conference 5A record for the school and for one of the school's directors, Billy Dragoo; the Red Dragon Players' first-place finish also set records for Austin High as the first 5A school to win consecutive championships and as the only 5A school to ever claim three state victories; and WHEREAS, In addition, all seven members of the show won at least one award during the competition, and it is believed to be the first time in the event's 86-year history that four different actors from the same company won Best Actor during the one-act play season; at the state contest, Jasmin Weber and Catherine Schwartz were awarded Honorable Mention All-Star Cast medals, Richard Dent was selected as a member of the All-Star Cast, and Felipe Ramirez won the award for Best Actor; over the course of the competition, Austin High received 17 acting awards and one technical award; and WHEREAS, The company also benefited greatly from the work of Aubrey Elenz, Ian Erbe, Maura Kampa, Kayla Litz, Bonnie Nolan, Billy Rainey, Martin Ramirez, Louise Root, Riley Ryan-Wood, Katherine Schroeder, Haley Wilson, and Joshua Wilson, as well as directors Annie Dragoo and Shannon Tipton; and WHEREAS, Winning a state championship is the culmination of countless hours of hard work and commitment, and these talented young Texans may take justifiable pride in their achievement; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Red Dragon Players of Austin High School on winning the 2012 UIL Conference 5A State One-Act Play Competition and extend to all those involved with the production sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Red Dragon Players as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
