H.R. No. 832 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, An official Texas Historical Marker is being dedicated at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Houston on March 23, 2013, in recognition of the church's long and notable record of service; and WHEREAS, A mainstay of Houston's historic Fourth Ward since its inception in the late 1890s, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church was known as Shiloh MBC for a short time before being incorporated in 1912 with its current name; today, Macedonia supports a number of programs and outreach initiatives beneficial to members of the church and the wider community; and WHEREAS, The congregation's initial one-story wood sanctuary at 1216 Ruthven was replaced in 1928 with a more spacious building featuring twin towers; Macedonia has hosted worship services for more than half a century at 1401 Ruthven, where the current two-story church home includes an auditorium, classrooms, and a kitchen; and WHEREAS, Many generations of area residents have looked to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for spiritual enrichment and practical assistance, and it is a privilege to join in honoring the church on this special occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of an official Texas Historical Marker at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
