H.R. No. 852
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez Committee is
sponsoring its annual Cesar Chavez March and celebration in Corpus
Christi on March 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Cesar Chavez devoted his life to the pursuit of
social and economic justice for farmworkers through nonviolent
means; he helped found the National Farm Workers Association, a
forerunner of the United Farm Workers, and organized strikes,
pickets, and boycotts to draw national attention to the unhealthy
working and living conditions endured by those who tend the fields;
and
WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez Committee is dedicated
to educating and inspiring generations of South Texans by
celebrating and advancing the legacy of Cesar Chavez; the
organization's 14th annual march coincides with its Cesar Chavez
state holiday celebration and precedes the official Texas holiday,
Cesar Chavez Day, on March 31, 2013; and
WHEREAS, By bringing the community together to pay tribute to
the life and achievements of Cesar Chavez, the Coastal Bend Cesar
Chavez Committee embodies the spirit of the movement he led, and it
is indeed fitting to recognize the organization's important
efforts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby recognize the Coastal Bend Cesar Chavez
Committee's 14th annual Cesar Chavez March and celebration and
extend to its organizers and participants best wishes for a
memorable and enjoyable event; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
