R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Houston CPA Society held its annual fund-raising
event, the Denim and Diamonds Gala: Boot Scootin' for Scholarships,
on February 16, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Organized in 1928, the Houston CPA Society provides
networking and continuing education opportunities to CPAs from 13
counties in the greater Houston area; with a membership of 8,000, it
is the largest CPA society in Texas; and
WHEREAS, The 2013 Denim and Diamonds Gala was the seventh
annual event held by the society to raise money for scholarships,
with 30 fifth-year accounting students benefiting each year; and
WHEREAS, This year's gala is being overseen by Houston CPA
society president Mark Lee and is honoring Linda and Johnny
Veselka, generous supporters of the society who have been promoting
the CPA profession for four decades; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Houston CPA Society are to be
commended for their staunch commitment to helping their fellow
Texans, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize this group for its
significant support of education in the greater Houston area; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the Houston CPA Society's 2013 Denim
and Diamonds Gala: Boot Scootin' for Scholarships and extend to the
society's members sincere best wishes for continued success with
their important work; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
