 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Members of the First Republican Women's Club of
 Dallas County gathered on March 20, 2012, to celebrate the 60th
 anniversary of their organization's founding, and this occasion
 provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on its many
 accomplishments; and
 WHEREAS, The FRW traces its roots back to 1952, when founder
 Ethyel Stallings organized approximately 200 women to help elect
 Dwight D. Eisenhower; the group joined the First Republican Women's
 Club of Mesquite to become the First Republican Women of Town East
 in 1955, the same year that the Texas Federation of Republican
 Women's Clubs (TFRW) was established; in 1982, the club became
 officially recognized under its current name; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, the Dallas County organization has
 worked hard to support many defining campaigns, including the
 election of Kay Bailey Hutchison, the first woman to represent
 Texas in the U.S. Senate, and Kay Granger, the first Republican
 woman to represent Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives; FRW
 members have been delegates to state and national conventions and
 have served in many public and civic positions throughout the
 state, such as Dallas County Council of Republican Women president
 Deborah Guerriero and TFRW Senate District 16 leader, Jeannee
 O'Neill; and
 WHEREAS, The organization was named the 2011 Dallas County
 Republican Club of the Year, and member Jan Vandeventer was
 recognized as the 2011 Republican Volunteer of the Year; moreover,
 the group has earned national accolades with Gold and Diamond Club
 Achievement Awards and consistently receives the TFRW Achievement
 Award; group founder Mrs. Stallings was an honoree at the TFRW
 Tribute to Women luncheon for her trailblazing efforts; and
 WHEREAS, In addition to its political activities, the club
 supports a variety of commendable programs in its community such as
 the Caring for America project, in which volunteers tutor immigrant
 children in the Dallas Independent School District in English,
 reading, and writing; members enjoy a May membership tea event and
 an annual trivia night, fund-raising impressive amounts through
 these and other activities; and
 WHEREAS, For six decades, members of the First Republican
 Women's Club of Dallas County have made a meaningful impact on
 political activism in the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to
 recognize the organization at this milestone in its rich history;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature hereby honor the First Republican Women's Club
 of
 Dallas County on the occasion of its 60th anniversary and extend to
 its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the FRW as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
