H.R. No. 945 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Sierra Francis of McKinney won first place in the Heifer Superintendent's Beef Challenge at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on January 26, 2013; and WHEREAS, This unique competition is open to high school seniors who have participated in the Fort Worth Stock Show Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show for at least two years; the challenge requires students to answer questions testing their knowledge of the livestock industry and beef cattle production and to present a sales pitch for the breed of heifer they are exhibiting; first place winners receive a $12,000 scholarship to help pay for their college education; and WHEREAS, A senior at McKinney Boyd High School, Ms. Francis serves as president of the Future Farmers of America and of the McKinney 4-H Club; a regular competitor at livestock shows, she previously won a scholarship at the 2012 San Antonio Livestock Show and captured first place English and showmanship trophies at the Collin County Livestock Show; and WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan is also a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club, and she is currently working toward her Gold Award with the Girl Scouts by creating a livestock show for individuals with special needs; and WHEREAS, Sierra Francis has distinguished herself through her commitment to excellence and her perseverance in the pursuit of her goals, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Sierra Francis for winning the 2013 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Heifer Superintendent's Beef Challenge and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Francis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
