| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. (a) The Office of Court Administration of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Texas Judicial System shall conduct a study to determine the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adequacy and appropriateness of additional compensation paid to a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | county judge of a constitutional county court who: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) serves in a county that does not have a county |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | court at law; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (2) has at least jurisdiction of: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (A) Class A and Class B misdemeanor cases; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (B) probate matters; |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (C) guardianship matters; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (D) matters of mental health under Subtitle C, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Title 7, Health and Safety Code. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (b) In conducting the study, the Office of Court |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Administration of the Texas Judicial System shall prepare a report |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | on the results of the study and recommendations on methods to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | improve compensation for county judges described by Subsection (a) |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | of this section. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (c) Not later than November 1, 2014, the Office of Court |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Administration of the Texas Judicial System shall submit a copy of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the report prepared under Subsection (b) of this section to the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and the chairs of the appropriate committees of the legislature |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | with jurisdiction over the judiciary. |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | SECTION 2. This Act expires January 1, 2016. |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
