66 AN ACT
77 relating to a study on the adequacy and appropriateness of
88 additional compensation paid to certain county judges.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. (a) The Office of Court Administration of the
1111 Texas Judicial System shall conduct a study to determine the
1212 adequacy and appropriateness of additional compensation paid to a
1313 county judge of a constitutional county court who:
1414 (1) serves in a county that does not have a county
1515 court at law; and
1616 (2) has at least jurisdiction of:
1717 (A) Class A and Class B misdemeanor cases;
1818 (B) probate matters;
1919 (C) guardianship matters; and
2020 (D) matters of mental health under Subtitle C,
2121 Title 7, Health and Safety Code.
2222 (b) In conducting the study, the Office of Court
2323 Administration of the Texas Judicial System shall prepare a report
2424 on the results of the study and recommendations on methods to
2525 improve compensation for county judges described by Subsection (a)
2626 of this section.
2727 (c) Not later than November 1, 2014, the Office of Court
2828 Administration of the Texas Judicial System shall submit a copy of
2929 the report prepared under Subsection (b) of this section to the
3030 lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives,
3131 and the chairs of the appropriate committees of the legislature
3232 with jurisdiction over the judiciary.
3333 SECTION 2. This Act expires January 1, 2016.
3434 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
