| 8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 387.003, Local | |
| 10 | 10 | Government Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 11 | (a) The commissioners court of the county may call an | |
| 12 | 12 | election on the question of creating a county assistance district | |
| 13 | 13 | under this chapter. More than one county assistance district may | |
| 14 | 14 | be created in a county[, but not more than one district may be | |
| 15 | 15 | created in a commissioners precinct]. | |
| 16 | 16 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 17 | 17 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 18 | 18 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 19 | 19 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 20 | 20 | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
