8 | 8 | | students at certain general academic teaching institutions to |
---|
9 | 9 | | promote timely graduation. |

10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 51, Education Code, is |
---|
12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 51.9195 to read as follows: |
---|
13 | 13 | | Sec. 51.9195. INFORMATION FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS |
---|
14 | 14 | | REGARDING BENEFITS OF TIMELY GRADUATION. (a) In this section, |
---|
15 | 15 | | "general academic teaching institution" and "public state college" |
---|
16 | 16 | | have the meanings assigned by Section 61.003. |
---|
17 | 17 | | (b) This section applies only to a general academic teaching |
---|
18 | 18 | | institution other than a public state college. |
---|
19 | 19 | | (c) An institution to which this section applies shall |
---|
20 | 20 | | provide to each first-time entering undergraduate student, |
---|
21 | 21 | | including each undergraduate student who transfers to the |
---|
22 | 22 | | institution, information in electronic or paper format that |
---|
23 | 23 | | includes, based on a reasonable projection by the institution using |
---|
24 | 24 | | the most recently available data: |
---|
25 | 25 | | (1) a comparison of the average total amounts of |
---|
26 | 26 | | tuition and fees paid by a full-time student who graduates from the |
---|
27 | 27 | | institution in the following number of academic years: |
---|
28 | 28 | | (A) four years; |
---|
29 | 29 | | (B) five years; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | (C) six years; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | (2) an estimate of the average earnings lost by a |
---|
32 | 32 | | recent graduate of the institution as a result of graduating after |
---|
33 | 33 | | five or six years instead of four years. |
---|
34 | 34 | | (d) An institution to which this section applies shall |
---|
35 | 35 | | include with the information provided to a student under Subsection |
---|
36 | 36 | | (c): |
---|
37 | 37 | | (1) a list of actions that the student can take to |
---|
38 | 38 | | facilitate graduating from the institution in a timely manner; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | (2) contact information for available academic, |
---|
40 | 40 | | career, and other related support services at the institution to |
---|
41 | 41 | | assist the student in that effort. |
---|
42 | 42 | | (e) An institution to which this section applies may satisfy |
---|
43 | 43 | | the requirements of Subsections (c)(1) and (2) with regard to a |
---|
44 | 44 | | student by providing the student with information that is more |
---|
45 | 45 | | specific than the information described by those subdivisions. |
---|
46 | 46 | | SECTION 2. Section 51.9195, Education Code, as added by |
---|
47 | 47 | | this Act, applies beginning with undergraduate students who |
---|
48 | 48 | | initially enroll in a general academic teaching institution for the |
---|
49 | 49 | | 2014 fall semester. |
---|
50 | 50 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
---|
