| 9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
| 10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subsection (a), Section 21.048, Education Code, | |
| 11 | 11 | is amended to read as follows: | |
| 12 | 12 | (a) The board shall propose rules prescribing comprehensive | |
| 13 | 13 | examinations for each class of certificate issued by the board. The | |
| 14 | 14 | board shall determine the satisfactory level of performance | |
| 15 | 15 | required for each certification examination. For the issuance of a | |
| 16 | 16 | generalist certificate, the board shall require a satisfactory | |
| 17 | 17 | level of examination performance in each core subject covered by | |
| 18 | 18 | the examination. | |
| 19 | 19 | SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2014, the State Board | |
| 20 | 20 | for Educator Certification shall determine performance levels for | |
| 21 | 21 | certification examinations as provided by Subsection (a), Section | |
| 22 | 22 | 21.048, Education Code, as amended by this Act. | |
| 23 | 23 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
| 24 | 24 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
| 25 | 25 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
| 26 | 26 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
| 27 | 27 | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
