                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 15, 2013      TO: Honorable Royce West, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1620 by Paxton (Relating to certified Communication Access Realtime Translation providers.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend Chapter 57 of the Government Code relating to certified Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers. The bill would include CART providers as an option when a motion for the appointment of an interpreter is made in court.  The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) would be required to maintain a list of certified CART providers and upon request, send the list to a person or court. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house; otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2013. The Department of Licensing and Regulation and DARS do not anticipate any significant fiscal impact as a result of complying with the provisions of the bill. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
