| 12 | 12 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 13 | 13 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 72, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | amended by adding Section 72.031 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sec. 72.031. STUDY TO REPEAL CERTAIN COURT FEES AND COSTS. |

| 16 | 16 | | (a) Not later than September 1, 2014, the office shall: |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (1) conduct a study on court fees and costs that |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | identifies each statutory law imposing a court fee or cost in a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | court in this state; |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (2) determine whether each identified fee or cost is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | necessary to accomplish the stated statutory purpose; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (3) compile a list of the identified fees and costs and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | of each fee or cost the office determines is necessary; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (4) publish the list on the office's Internet website |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and in the Texas Register; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (5) provide a copy of the list and determinations to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker of the house of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | representatives. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (b) In conducting the study required under Subsection (a), |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | the office shall consult with local government representatives as |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the office determines appropriate. |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | (c) The Texas Legislative Council shall prepare for |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | consideration by the 84th Legislature, Regular Session, a revision |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | of the statutes of this state as necessary to reflect the court fees |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and costs identified by the office as not necessary in the study |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | conducted under Subsection (a). |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | (d) This section expires January 1, 2016. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
