99 AN ACT
1010 relating to the awarding of the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor.
1111 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1212 SECTION 1. Subsection (d), Section 431.131, Government
1313 Code, is amended to read as follows:
1414 (d) The legislature by concurrent resolution may direct the
1515 governor to award the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor to a person
1616 nominated by the nominating committee. The committee chairs
1717 serving on the nominating committee shall jointly prepare a
1818 concurrent resolution directing the governor to award the medal to
1919 a person nominated. The legislature may direct the medal to be
2020 awarded only during a regular session and may not, during a regular
2121 session, direct the medal to be awarded to more than:
2222 (1) one person for service in the state or federal
2323 military forces during the period beginning after 1835 but before
2424 1956; and
2525 (2) one person for service in the state or federal
2626 military forces after 1955 [during a regular session].
2727 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2828 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2929 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3030 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3131 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
