| 8 | 8 | | licenses issued to applicants with military experience. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 51, Occupations Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 51.4013 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 51.4013. LICENSE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | APPLICANTS WITH MILITARY EXPERIENCE. (a) Notwithstanding any |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | other law, the department shall credit verified military service, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | training, or education toward the licensing requirements, other |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | than examination requirements, for a license issued by the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | department. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (b) The commission shall adopt rules necessary to implement |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | this section. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 2. (a) Subsection (a), Section 51.4013, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Occupations Code, as added by this Act, applies only to an |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | application for a license filed with the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Licensing and Regulation on or after May 1, 2014. An application |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for a license filed with the department before May 1, 2014, is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | governed by the law in effect on the date the application was filed, |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and that law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (b) The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | adopt rules under Section 51.4013, Occupations Code, as added by |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | this Act, not later than March 1, 2014. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
