9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subsection (c), Section 402.042, Government | |
11 | 11 | Code, is amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (c) A request for an opinion must be in writing and sent by | |
13 | 13 | certified or registered mail, with return receipt requested, | |
14 | 14 | addressed to the office of the attorney general in Austin, or | |
15 | 15 | electronically to an electronic mail address designated by the | |
16 | 16 | attorney general for the purpose of receiving requests for opinions | |
17 | 17 | under this section. The attorney general shall: | |
18 | 18 | (1) acknowledge receipt of the request not later than | |
19 | 19 | the 15th day after the date that it is received; and | |
20 | 20 | (2) issue the opinion not later than the 180th day | |
21 | 21 | after the date that it is received, unless before that deadline the | |
22 | 22 | attorney general notifies the requesting person in writing that the | |
23 | 23 | opinion will be delayed or not rendered and states the reasons for | |
24 | 24 | the delay or refusal. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
