                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 13, 2013      TO: Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee On Health & Human Services      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB504 by Deuell ( Relating to the requirement that certain schoolchildren be screened for abnormal spinal curvature.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would allow each public or private school to choose to either participate in the spinal screening program for children in grades 6 and 9, or to provide information developed by the Department of State Health Services on abnormal spinal curvature to the parents, managing conservators, or guardians of children in grades 6 through 9 attending the public or private school.  The Texas Department of State Health Services indicates it could absorb the costs associated with the bill within its current resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
