99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subsection (h), Section 61.051, Education Code,
1111 is amended to read as follows:
1212 (h) The board shall make continuing studies of the needs of
1313 the state for research and designate the institutions of higher
1414 education to perform research as needed. The board shall also
1515 maintain an inventory of all institutional and programmatic
1616 research activities being conducted by the various institutions,
1717 whether state-financed or not. Once a year, on dates prescribed by
1818 the board, each institution of higher education shall report to the
1919 board all research conducted at that institution during the last
2020 preceding year. Each institution's report must include the amounts
2121 spent by the institution on human embryonic stem cell research and
2222 adult stem cell research during the year covered by the report and
2323 the source of the funding for that research. All reports required
2424 by this subsection shall be made subject to the limitations imposed
2525 by security regulations governing defense contracts for research.
2626 Not later than January 1 of each year, the board shall submit to the
2727 legislature information regarding human stem cell research
2828 obtained by the board from reports required by this subsection.
2929 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
