1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 29.402, Education Code, is amended by
1212 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c-1) to read as
1313 follows:
1414 (a) A [Beginning September 1, 2012, a] public junior college
1515 may enter into an articulation agreement to partner with one or more
1616 school districts located in the public junior college district to
1717 provide on the campus of the public junior college a dropout
1818 recovery program for students described by Subsection (b) to
1919 successfully complete and receive a diploma from a high school of
2020 the appropriate partnering school district.
2121 (c-1) A public junior college under this section may partner
2222 with a public technical institute, as defined by Section 61.003, to
2323 provide, as part of the dropout recovery program curriculum, career
2424 and technology education courses that lead to industry or career
2525 certification.
2626 SECTION 2. Section 29.403, Education Code, is amended by
2727 adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
2828 (c) A public technical institute may receive from a
2929 partnering public junior college for each student enrolled in a
3030 career and technology education course as provided by Section
3131 29.402(c-1) an amount negotiated between the public technical
3232 institute and the partnering public junior college.
3333 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3434 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3535 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3636 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3737 Act takes effect September 1, 2013.
