| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Those facilities that provide Texas senior citizens |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | with support and assistance while allowing them to maintain their |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | independence and dignity are indeed worthy of special recognition; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, With the number of elderly Americans on the rise, it |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | is increasingly important to ensure housing and resources are |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | available to preserve their quality of life; assisted living offers |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | relatively independent senior citizens the minor health care |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | services and help they need to continue residing in a home setting; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Approximately 40,000 Texans live in more than 1,700 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | licensed assisted living communities; by offering socialization |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and personal wellness opportunities, along with staff who interact |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | daily with residents, these facilities help prevent seniors from |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | becoming isolated; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Assisted living facilities and the caring workers |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | who run them render invaluable services to many Texas seniors and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | their families, and in so doing, they contribute significantly to |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | communities throughout the state; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | hereby designate the first Tuesday in March 2013 as Texas Assisted |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Living Awareness Day; and, be it further |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Subsection (d), Section 391.004, Government Code, this designation |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | remains in effect until the 10th anniversary of the date this |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | resolution is passed. |
