SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 100 In Memory of Arturo C. Gonzalez WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Del Rio in mourning the loss of Arturo C. Gonzalez, who died December 21, 2012, at the age of 104; and WHEREAS, Arturo Gonzalez was born October 4, 1908, in Del Rio; he attended Del Rio High School and worked at a number of odd jobs; after seeing an advertisement for the American Correspondence School of Law, he became interested in the legal field and served as an interpreter of the court, where he observed criminal and civil cases; and WHEREAS, After passing a college entrance examination and the Texas State Bar, Arturo was licensed to practice law on February 27, 1935; he opened a law practice, served for two years in the army, and became president of the League of United Latin American Citizens Council 18; Arturo was active in the council's efforts to develop public housing for the underprivileged, and he served as the first director of the Del Rio Housing Authority; and WHEREAS, Arturo was dedicated to his work on behalf of the poor and was devoted to his late wife, Blanca, and to his children, Daisy, Kathy, Arthur, Blanca, and Sergio, who is the Val Verde County Court at Law judge; and WHEREAS, Arturo Gonzalez was an exemplary gentleman who worked hard and was respected for his many accomplishments; he was generous and kindhearted and was beloved by many, and he will long be remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Arturo C. Gonzalez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Arturo Gonzalez.
