SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1000
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Yolanda Velasquez, one of its most highly regarded
staff members, who is retiring after more than 18 years of
exceptional service with the Texas Senate; and
WHEREAS, Yolanda began her career with the Senate in 1995
as an employee in the office of Senator Gonzalo Barrientos; in
2007, she joined the office of Senator Kirk Watson, where she has
continued her loyal service to the Senate as a legislative staff
member in charge of constituent services and where she has
contributed greatly to the efficiency of daily office
operations; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of her career with the Senate,
Yolanda has been a true asset to each of the offices in which she
has served and to the people of Senate District 14; a hardworking
Senate employee, Yolanda has distinguished herself by her
sincere willingness to take on any task, no matter its
challenges; from generating multiple types of correspondence, to
preparing flag certificates, to arranging group Capitol tours,
to answering constituents' questions and managing a variety of
casework, she has handled her myriad duties with dependability
and an impressive attention to detail; and
WHEREAS, Yolanda is known for her warm and convivial
personality, as well as for her ability to remain calm and
centered when faced with the daunting tasks and deadlines common
in the workplace during legislative sessions; in addition, she
has played a significant role in the scheduling and management of
many of the events that take place at the Capitol; her assistance
in handling requests from residents of the senator's district has
been invaluable, and she has made certain that on visits to the
Capitol, constituents have been met with a warm welcome and
attention to their needs; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work at the Capitol, Yolanda is
active in the community as a member of Teatro Chicano Aztlan of
Austin and of Cristo Rey Catholic Church, where she serves on the
Pastoral Council and the Bazaar Planning Committee; she looks
forward to continuing her work in the community during her
retirement years and to spending time with her children, her
foster children, and her grandchild; she also no doubt will find
time for dancing and gardening and visiting friends, as well as
cultivating her enviable cooking and baking skills, for which she
is justifiably renowned; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding Senate employee, Yolanda is
beloved and respected by her co-workers, and her presence in the
office of Senator Kirk Watson and as a friend to fellow Capitol
employees will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Yolanda Velasquez on her exceptional
service to the people of Texas as a valued staff member of the
Texas Senate and extend to her best wishes for continued success
in all her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
