                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1037
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Mary K. Suhm, who is retiring after eight years of
 outstanding service as the city manager of Dallas; and
 WHEREAS, Mary Suhm began her career with the City of Dallas
 as a branch library manager 35 years ago; she went on to hold a
 variety of positions with the city and served as director of
 courts, executive assistant director of the Dallas Police
 Department, and assistant city manager; she was appointed Dallas
 city manager by the Dallas City Council in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of her career in municipal
 government, she developed a national reputation among public
 administrators for creativity and innovation; she has introduced
 such business practices as performance measurement,
 benchmarking, and strategic planning to city government
 operations to ensure efficient and effective management; and
 WHEREAS, Under her leadership as city manager, a wide range
 of projects were completed, including the Latino Cultural
 Center, the Margaret Hunt Hill and Margaret McDermott Bridges,
 and the Dallas Convention Center Hotel; she was widely praised
 for her leadership during the rescue and evacuation efforts
 following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; and
 WHEREAS, She has earned numerous accolades for her
 accomplishments, including the title of 2007 Public Administrator
 of the Year and the Linda Keithley Award for Women in Public
 Management; an exemplary public servant, she is respected and
 admired by her colleagues in city government and the citizens of
 Dallas, and her presence at Dallas City Hall will be greatly missed;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby commend Mary Suhm on her exceptional service to
 the people of Dallas as city manager and extend to her best wishes for
 continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
