SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1045 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing Jose Flores, a well-known and beloved Houston citizen who recently retired from a successful career in the restaurant business; and WHEREAS, Joe was born on October 13, 1943, the seventh of ten children; he grew up on Galveston Island, graduated from Ball High School, and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with distinction and rose to the rank of sergeant; and WHEREAS, Following his military service, Joe joined Volunteers in Service to America and worked in El Paso, where he promoted economic development in low-income communities; and WHEREAS, Joe later moved to Houston; he began working at a local restaurant and soon discovered he had a passion for the restaurant business; he went on to spend a number of years in the industry and greatly enjoyed socializing and connecting with patrons on a daily basis; and WHEREAS, While in his early 40s, Joe joined the staff at Fuad's, and he quickly realized he had found co-workers, as well as an establishment, that would become dear to his heart; for the next 27 years, he worked alongside friends, and he became a popular figure with a large following of regular customers; and WHEREAS, During his time at Fuad's, people were drawn to the establishment not only for its superior drinks and cuisine but also because they knew they would be greeted enthusiastically by Joe, who was known for his engaging personality, his bighearted nature, and his ability to relate to people of all backgrounds; and WHEREAS, When Joe retired from Fuad's, his employers, his co-workers, and his longtime customers honored him with a celebratory retirement party of immense proportions that included bands, food, and drink and that was attended by hundreds of people whose lives he has touched; and WHEREAS, Joe Flores is devoted to his family and his friends and places the utmost importance on his relationships; he is close to his many nieces and nephews, and they, like all those who know him, are deeply inspired by his positive outlook and his zest for life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Jose Flores, a treasured Texas citizen, and commend him on his many contributions to the citizens of Houston and on his successful restaurant career; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of Joe Flores and as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
