                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1054
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Annyston H. Pennington, who has been named a 2013
 United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts; and
 WHEREAS, The United States Presidential Scholars Program
 was established in 1964 by an executive order of President Lyndon
 B. Johnson to recognize and honor some of the nation's most
 distinguished graduating high school seniors; and
 WHEREAS, Annyston is a student at Amarillo High School; to
 receive this coveted award, she was required to go through a
 rigorous process that included participation in the national
 Young Arts program and the creation and submission of such
 candidacy materials as essays, a self-assessment, secondary
 school reports, and transcripts; and
 WHEREAS, In receiving this prestigious honor, Annyston has
 demonstrated the accomplishments that can be made when students
 challenge themselves, set the highest standards, and commit
 themselves to excellence; she is truly deserving of recognition
 for her outstanding achievements and her dedication to her craft;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby commend Annyston H. Pennington on her hard
 work and determination and extend congratulations to her on being
 named a 2013 United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
