SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1077
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Berkeley Sol Capelo on the auspicious occasion of her
graduation from Saint Michael's Catholic Academy in Austin; and
WHEREAS, Berkeley was born February 19, 1995, in Corpus
Christi, Texas; and
WHEREAS, She first stepped into the Texas Capitol at the
age of three on the occasion of the swearing-in ceremony of her
father, Jaime Capelo, after his special election into the Texas
House of Representatives in May of 1998; and
WHEREAS, She has been involved in political races since the
age of two and interned in the Texas Capitol during the 83rd
Legislature for Senator Carlos Uresti, a close family friend; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her high school years, Berkeley has been
remarkably active, and she has been a respected and well-liked
student among her teachers and her fellow classmates; and
WHEREAS, Her many extracurricular commitments included her
participation in the prestigious University of Texas School of
Architecture Summer Program and her volunteer work for many
charities and civic organizations in the Austin area; and
WHEREAS, At her high school, Berkeley was a member of the
Art Club, the Chess Club, the Biology Club, the Tailgating Club,
and the school literary magazine; she was also a student athlete
who played varsity basketball, ran track and field, and
participated in volleyball; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional young lady has a passion for the
arts and humanities; in college, she is planning to major in
business and political science, and she hopes to attend law
school; Berkeley was accepted for enrollment at seven
prestigious universities around the country, and she has elected
to attend Southern Methodist University in the fall of 2013; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Berkeley Sol Capelo on her recent
graduation from Saint Michael's Catholic Academy and extend to
her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
