SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 126 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join promotores and community health workers from across the state in celebrating February 5, 2013, as Texas Promotores and Community Health Workers Day at the Capitol; and WHEREAS, Since the turn of the century, promotores and community health workers have been an invaluable resource in the many communities they serve across Texas; and WHEREAS, As trusted community members, they tirelessly promote preventive health care and wellness among the most vulnerable and underserved residents in minority populations; and WHEREAS, These devoted specialists and care givers integrate information about general health and the public health care system into the community's culture, language, and value systems, improving access to health and social services; they conduct outreach programs in residences, community centers, clinics, hospitals, schools, worksites, and shelters, and at local cultural events, faith-based locales, and social service organizations; and WHEREAS, These community health advocates provide culturally and linguistically competent education and raise awareness about the prevention and treatment of illness and about disease management; these efforts improve the quality of care and the level of compliance with prescribed care, ultimately saving lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend all those participating in the Texas Promotores and Community Health Workers Day at the State Capitol and extend to them best wishes for a memorable celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
