SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 132 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Barry Sawyer, who has been named Peace Officer of the Year by the Major K. M. Van Zandt chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution; and WHEREAS, A member of the Fort Worth Police Department, Officer Sawyer won this prestigious honor for his timely action in helping a bed-bound senior citizen contend with the sweltering heat of a Texas summer; and WHEREAS, Officer Sawyer responded to a call to help the citizen locate a replacement for her air conditioning unit; by the end of the day, Officer Sawyer had purchased an air conditioner with his own funds and had worked with other officers and an Oakhurst Citizens on Patrol member to install the unit at the woman's house; and WHEREAS, Officer Sawyer is known for his willingness to go the extra mile for his community, especially for young people and senior citizens; before he became a police officer, he worked with juvenile offenders to help them turn their lives around, and while working for the United States Postal Service, he received a lifesaving award for assisting a person in need; and WHEREAS, An exemplary police officer, he is respected and admired by colleagues and citizens alike, and it is truly fitting that he receive this notable honor; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Officer Barry Sawyer of the Fort Worth Police Department on his commitment to public service and extend congratulations to him on being named Peace Officer of the Year; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
